Sumner Block is a historic mixed-use property located at 306-310 Main Street in Great Barrington.

Built in the late 19th century, this four-story Second Empire architectural gem housed a Woolworth’s for 50 years and a music hall with performances. It contains six rental apartments that are considered Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH) units, with tenants who work locally.

The acquisition of the Sumner Block in June 2023 would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of various partners and stakeholders. CDCSB staff and board recognize the exceptional assistance from the Town of Great Barrington, which has consistently strived to engage in projects that promote solutions to our housing crisis. In addition, the Great Barrington Affordable Housing Trust has played a vital role in sponsoring initiatives that ensure fair access to affordable housing for all South Berkshire residents. CDCSB also acknowledges the invaluable contributions of an anonymous donor, community leaders, and local residents. Their commitment and collaboration have been essential in the CDCSB’s pursuit of a prosperous and inclusive South Berkshire.
